Biography

Sam was born in Barnsley in 1980, the son of two devoted lovers of folk music. Soon after, the family moved to the village of Addingham in West Yorkshire. It was here that he first remembers hearing his father, a folk guitarist and singer, playing blues licks and where his passion for the blues began. He got his hands on the recordings of Robert Johnson at the age of twelve and spent hours trying tirelessly to play along with them. During this time his family would frequently take Sam and his brother Jo to folk clubs and festivals where Sam gained an invaluable insight into blues/folk and accoustic music. The family moved to the town of Ilkley in 1993 where Sam attended Ilkley Grammar School.

It was not until the age of 24 when Sam was playing in the family kitchen when his dad told him it was time he started getting out and playing in front of people. He played an open mic night at "the Swan" pub in Addingham where he was offered his first gig at the Melbourne hotel in Bradford that same night. He has been gigging regularly, mainly in the West Yorkshire region ever since. He now lives between Leeds and the family home in Ilkley.
